Joy earned a Master of Science degree in Oriental Medicine from the Traditional Chinese Medical College of Hawaii and is a licensed acupuncturist in both Oregon and Hawaii.
She is board certified by NCCAOM (The National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine) in the areas of Acupuncture, Biomedicine, Oriental Medicine, and Chinese Herbal Medicine.
After graduation, she became certified in the Kiso method, a non-force spinal alignment technique to treat misaligned vertebrae, muscle tension, postural misalignment, and pain of the neck, shoulder, and back. She also studied sound healing and became trained in Acutonics, a non-needle technique to stimulate acupuncture points via sound frequencies as taught by the Kairos Institute of Sound Healing. In addition, she is trained in the NADA (National Acupuncture Detoxification Association) protocol for the treatment of behavioral health issues including addictions (smoking, compulsive eating, withdrawal, etc.); disaster & emotional trauma; and PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder).
Her continuing studies of herbal medicine included a year long post-graduate course in Dr. Qin Bo-Wei's classical precision prescription formulation under the guidance of Jason Blalack L.Ac.
She continues her education through study of neurobiology, classical acupuncture, and mind-body healing including the field of epigenetics, the science of how environment and belief affects biology.
She considers herself a life-long student of the wisdom of nature to reveal the path to balance and spends much of her spare time outdoors.
